11th December
6 (possibly 7) species of gull on the brackish pond.
2 Mediterranean (both adults); 1 Lesser Black-backed (scarce in winter); 1 Great Black-backed; 8 Common; plus usual Herring and Black-headed.
Of interest was what appeared to be a large white-headed gull (LWHG) in 1st winter plumage which looked like either Yellow-legged or Caspian. No scope available to check out finer details but very clean white head with little or no streaking; dark “beady” eye; all dark bill rather slim (no as chunky as typical yellow-legged); tail/rump pattern looked good in flight; head structure with sloping forehead and flat crown looked good for Caspian; pink legs.
Also a Little Egret.
